Harmutty, 14 March 2025: The solemn inauguration of the Scouting Camp at Harmutty commenced at 9:30 AM with the arrival of the esteemed chief guest. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of scouts and guides from four distinguished schools: Don Bosco School, Doimukh; Don Bosco School, Jollang; Auxilium School, Gopur; and St Xavier’s School, Harmutty.
Fr Benny James SDB, the Principal of St Xavier’s School, warmly welcomed the gathering in his inaugural address. The event was graced by the Honourable Mr. Mudang Tacho, Vice President of the Past Pupils, Dimapur Province, and Manager of the Indian Oil Depot, Doimukh, as the chief guest. The dignitaries on the dais included Fr Joshua Gangmei SDB, Principal of Don Bosco School, Jollang; Fr Adahe Paul, Principal of Don Bosco School, Doimukh; Sr Regina Bosco SCC, Vice Principal of St Xavier’s School, Harmutty; Fr Hilarius Ekka SDB, Rector and Parish Priest of Don Bosco, Harmutty; Fr Benny James SDB, Principal of St Xavier’s School, Harmutty; Fr Solomon SDB, the LOC of the camp; and Sir Lasar, the Assistant LOC of the camp.
The ceremony began with a grand welcome by the colour party, who felicitated the chief guest on stage. The campers showcased vibrant performances to honour the chief guest and celebrate the spirit of scouting.
In his inspiring address, Mr. Mudang Tacho highlighted the immense opportunities the camp offers to students. He emphasized that a true leader is one who thinks critically and initiates actions. He elaborated on three essential qualities that every scout and guide should possess:
- Initiative – The ability to take proactive steps and lead by example.
- Team Spirit – Working collaboratively for collective success.
- Effective Communication – The skill to express and convey ideas confidently.
The chief guest further shared valuable life lessons through three key principles that guide his own family:
- ET (Eating Together): Emphasizing the importance of sharing meals as a family to foster bonding.
- PT (Praying Together): Highlighting the power of collective prayer in strengthening family values.
- QT (Quality Time): Encouraging families to spend meaningful time together to build unity and love.
He urged the students to imbibe these values and apply them in their lives, ensuring a foundation of strong character and leadership. The event concluded on a high note, marking the beginning of an enriching and adventurous scouting experience for all participants.

Although Scouts and Guides had been introduced long before in the School yet such systematic ways and the grand form of celebration was never seen before.
