Lakhimpur, 10 May 2025 — A one-day Happy Classroom Training programme was conducted at Asian Public School, Lakhimpur, bringing together educators from four schools for a capacity-building session focused on emotional well-being, self-awareness, and positive classroom culture.
The session began on a cheerful note with two engaging activities: participants first drew a scenic picture, followed by a creative exercise of dividing a circle into two equal parts. These opening tasks helped create a relaxed, joyful atmosphere, setting the tone for an enriching day of learning.
Led by a skilled resource person, the session provided a Self-Awareness Scale that allowed teachers to rate themselves on various emotional statements, promoting deeper understanding of personal emotions. Participants also completed an Aggression Questionnaire and an Emotional Intelligence Self-Evaluation — tools that are essential in managing emotions and fostering a peaceful, happy learning environment.
Three practical toolkits were introduced to aid in self-regulation:
- S.T.O.P.P. – Stop, Take a deep breath, Observe, Pull back, Practice
- C.A.R.E. – Connect, Ask, Reflect, Empathize
- P.L.E.A.S.E. – Physical care, Look after yourself, Eat healthy, Avoid harmful things, Sleep well, Exercise
A special segment was dedicated to discussing challenges teachers face in classrooms and staffrooms, with strategies suggested to maintain a positive and uplifting environment.
The session concluded with a reflection on the Pathway to Happiness, emphasizing values such as gratitude, forgiveness, optimism, and self-respect. The trainer shared that happiness is achieved when one’s life fulfills their needs — a message that resonated deeply with the participants.
Representing St. Xavier’s School, Harmutty, the participants were Ms. Jacinta Theik, Ms. Rita Bhengra, Ms. Anima Toppo, and Ms. Lucy Kemdina. The training programme aligns with the CBSE’s policy that requires teachers to complete 25 hours of professional development annually.
This initiative marks a significant step toward nurturing happier and more emotionally intelligent classrooms, laying the foundation for holistic education.
