Harmutty, Assam – 28 May 2025: Fr Benny James SDB, Principal of St Xavier’s School, Harmutty, has been conferred with the prestigious Tagore National Principal’s Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of education. The award was presented during a distinguished ceremony organized by Ek Updesh Media on 17th May 2025 at Vivanta Hotel by Taj, Guwahati.
The award adds to a long list of accolades recognizing Fr Benny James’ unwavering commitment to quality education and nation-building through holistic development. Notably, he was honoured with the Best Teacher Award in Assam in 2007, and during his tenure as Principal of Don Bosco College, Maram, he led the institution to national acclaim. Under his leadership, the college received the Best NSS Award at the national level, conferred by the then President of India on 19th November 2012 — a moment of great pride for the Salesian educational family.
Following the award ceremony in Guwahati, Educational Initiatives (Ei) extended a heartfelt congratulatory message to Fr Benny James SDB. In a letter from Anita Kamath, Zonal Manager – North-East & Odisha, Ei praised his “unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and deep commitment to fostering a nurturing and high-achieving educational environment.” The message described Fr Benny’s efforts as a benchmark for excellence and a source of inspiration for the entire educational community.
